US citizens warned over European travel following Brussels attack

The United States state department has issued a travel alert warning citizens of potential dangers when visiting Europe.

The warning comes following several terrorist attacks, including the March 22nd attacks in Brussels which left over 30 people dead.

That attack was claimed by so-called Islamic State, along with an attack on French capital Paris in November.

“Terrorist groups continue to plan near-term attacks throughout Europe, targeting sporting events, tourist sites, restaurants, and transportation,” warned the US state department.

The warning is expected to stay in place until June 20th, 2016.

“United States citizens should exercise vigilance when in public places or using mass transportation.

“Be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid crowded places.

“Exercise particular caution during religious holidays and at large festivals or events,” urged the release.

European governments continue to guard against terrorist attacks and conduct raids to disrupt plots.

“We work closely with our allies and will continue to share information with our European partners that will help identify and counter terrorist threats,” concluded the state department.
