More about the beaches of South Goa

Cola Beach
——————
Cola beach is surrounded by hills on both sides and shrouded by palm trees and paddy fields.

Cola beach is much quieter than most along this entire stretch of coast.

There is two sections to Cola beach, north Cola which is about 800 meters long and is dotted with red lava rocks, and South Cola which is a smaller more intimate bay.

A small river also flows into Cola beach forming a fresh water lagoon which is good for swimming in as there are no waves, great for kids. Cola beach itself isn’t good for swimming due to the rocks and heavy surf, but Cola is a wonderful beach for peace and quiet, for sitting on the beach and relaxing along the beach.

Cola beach in general is not very developed giving a lovely intimate feel. There are only two or three places to stay and eat along the whole stretch of beach, there are some beautiful chalets looking out over the beach. Cola beach is perfect for a more peaceful beach day.

Palolem Beach
————————-
Palolem beach the most famous and most popular beach in south Goa.

Palolem beach is considered one of the best beaches of the whole of the Goa coast.

Palolem is a one and a half mile stretch of gently curving beach sheltered by hills at either end. With soft sand and fringed with tall palm trees Palolem really is an idyllic location.

The water just off the beach is shallow for quite a way out so you can enjoy the warm Arabian Sea with very few waves.

Lining Palolem beach are lots of cafes, bars, restaurants and places to stay as well as activity centres where you can rent kayaks or go for boat trips or even get trips down the river that goes behind.

Behind Palolem beach is another row of shops offering further accommodation, bars, currency exchange and all sorts of things so you really can get everything you need right here at Palolem.

Agonda Beach
————————
Agonda beach is located between Cola beach and Palolem beach and is one of the quieter beaches of Goa. Agoda is a great beach for chilling without any hassle and sunbathing and walking along the beach or having a quiet drink, but still has everything you might need.

There are lots of bars, cafes and a few places to stay lining the beach at Agonda so you can get something to eat quite easily.

There are also boat trips to go and see the dolphins and the islands, and you can even do a little river trip that goes inland up a little tributary to see the birds which is particularly good in the morning I’m told.

The swimming at Agonda beach isn’t so great since the water can get a bit choppy, so be careful if you go swimming.

Located just behind the beach and running parallel is the beach road which is also lined with many more places to stay, more cafes, restaurants and bars so there is a lot here and it doesn’t intrude too much onto this beautiful wide beach.

Patnem Beach
————————
Patnem beach is a secret alternative to Palolem beach. Only three kilometres south of Palelom Patnem offers all the same facilities but on a smalle scale. Patnem is quieter and cheaper but if you want something busier Palolem is only a short rickshaw ride away.

Patnem is a nice beach stretching 900 meters between two rocky headlands, lined with palm trees under which you will find various restaurants cafes bars and pubs.

Many of these places also have sun beds that you can sit out and enjoy the beach. It’s very easy to relax a day, or a week, or longer here at Patnem Beach.
